Resistances and Ohm
General information regarding ohm's for new vapers
Using a higher resistance than recommended will produce less vapor
Lower resistances may lead to burnt tastes, there is also a chance of ruining your cartomizer/atomizer
Details: The resistance of a device (Atomizer, cartomizers, clearomizers) determines how hot the heating coil will become based on the amount of voltage your battery outputs. Standard e-cigarette batteries output approx. 3.7 volts.
The resistance determines how much vapor and throat hit is produced. Devices with a lower resistance (measured in ohms) produce more vapor and a stronger throat hit. Using lower resistances increasing the chance of creating a burnt taste, compared to higher resistances.
The wicks on lower resistance coils need to be kept wet at all times (Higher PG percentages in the base mix allows for better wicked. The thicker the E-Liquid, the slower it wicks. It only takes one ‘dry hit’ to create a burnt taste that may never go away.
Variable Voltage devices let you customize your vaping experience by allowing you to select different voltage ratings depending on your personal preference. Example: A 1.5 ohm dual coil cartomizer at 4.5v to 5v gives more throat hit and vapor compared to using the same cartomizer with a standard 3.7v battery. Flavors also taste different at different voltages. Different flavor notes become more present and noticeable at various voltages. WARNING: Using too high of a voltage can lead to damaging your cartomizer/atomizer and burnt taste. Adjust your voltages slowly.
About Resistances: Higher 3.0 and Up ohms resistance provides a cooler, smoother vape with less throat hit. Low to Standard Resistance measures 1.25 - 2.7 ohms. Lower resistance tank cartomizers provide greater heat and vapor which results in greater throat hit. WARNING: Low Resistance Cartomizers are NOT recommended for thin, pen-style devices. They will work but can damage the battery and lower the expected life of the battery. |
Single Coil vs. Dual Coil
As the name implies, a single coil device has one heating element whereas dual coil devices have two. The heating element is what heats up our E-Liquid to produce vapor. Dual coils produce more heat, nearly double the vapor and throat hit. Dual coil devices require more battery power.
Variable Voltage Batteries (Vision Spinner, Smoktech Winder, EVOD Twist)
Voltage | Single Coil | Dual Coil |
3.6 | 1.5 - 3 | 1.5 |
4.0 | 2.0 - 3.2 | 1.5 - 1.8 |
4.4 | 2.5 - 4.5 | 2.0 - 2.5 |
4.8 | 3.0 - 5 | 3 |
Pen-style vaporizer (looks like a cigarette)
Recommended Single Coil 2.0 - 2.5 ohm.
Lower resistances will shorten the life span of your battery.
Dual Coil Cartomizers are not recommended.
eGo Type Batteries
Recommended Single Coil 2.0 - 2.5 ohm
Dual Coil Cartomizer 1.5 - 1.7ohm
Lower resistances will shorten the life span of your battery
Higher resistances will produce very little vapor
3.7 volt Box / Tube
Recommended Single Coil 1.7 - 3.2 ohm
Dual Coil Cartomizer 1.5 - 1.7ohm
Lower resistances may trigger the protection circuit on your battery
5 volt Box / Tube
Recommended 2.5 - 3.2ohm.
Dual Coil Cartomizer 2.0 ohm.
Lower resistances may lead to burnt tastes, there is also a chance of ruining your cartomizer/atomizer.
6 volt Box / Tube
Recommended 3.2ohm and up.
Dual Coil Cartomizer 2.5ohm.
Lower resistances may lead to burnt tastes, there is also a chance of ruining your cartomizer/atomizer.
7 volt Box / Tube Mod
Recommended: 4.5 - 5.0 ohm.
Dual Coil Cartomizer 3.0 ohm.
Resistances lower than 4 ohms are a personal preference at this voltage.
